RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. -- (KTXL) -- Rancho Cordova police say they will use tracking devices in dummy packages placed at doorsteps in order to deter and catch the growing number of thieves pilfering deliveries during the holidays.

Police say it's due to the growing popularity of online shopping.

"There's a lot more as far as the volume of packages that people are getting left on their doorsteps ... that relates to a lot of complaints of packages getting taken, so we certainly see the rise in complaints," said Deputy Matt Deaux of the Rancho Cordova Police Department.
