FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. -- (KFOR) -- Joseph Layman has been working at 7-Eleven for five years, but what happened recently stopped him in his tracks.
A man walked into the store and attempted to rob Layman at gunpoint.
“I had a thousand thoughts going through my mind. The last thing that went through my mind is he could still shoot me even if I give him the money so that's why I acted the way I did instead of giving my life away for nothing,” Layman told WHAG.
Layman wrestled with the suspect for the gun, eventually gaining control of it.
“Honestly, I was prepared if I was going to die or not. I rather fight for my life,” he said.
The store owner told WHAG that he promoted Layman to night manager following the foiled robbery attempt.
