NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- (WPIX) -- By all accounts Robert Kanowitz, known locally as "Bobby K," had a stellar reputation. Up until recently he catered all the big events at Temple Tikvah but now some families say they can''t find Bobby K or their deposit money.

The Zyman and the Beitler families both live in Plainview, Long Island. They we're gearing up for major celebrations and trusted the catering for their sons' bat mitzvahs.

"We went, we met with Bobby, had a nice conversation and he showed us around." Alyssa Beitler said. "We liked what we saw.'

"He was a great salesman, he sold it to us," Melissa Zyman said. 'We gave a deposit by check for $2,500."
