The Marion County Sheriff's Office released video Monday of a high-speed pursuit that occurred on Sunday, a day after a suspect threatened a pizza delivery driver and stole her vehicle.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an armed carjacking Saturday in Dunnellon, Fla. after a female Pizza Hut delivery driver was threatened by a suspect with a gun, who then stole her 2003 Pontiac Vibe, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
On Sunday, sheriff's deputies received an anonymous tip that Keefer Jordan Nicolo Shubert, 23, was driving the vehicle with several passengers inside in a Walmart parking lot in Ocala. A sheriff's air unit located the vehicle, and deputies began pursuing the vehicle on the ground and by air.
The suspect driver drove dangerously, weaving in traffic, illegally passing vehicles, speeding through intersections and driving into oncoming traffic at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to the sheriff's office. A sheriff's deputy was able to perform a PIT maneuver and stop the vehicle, whereupon suspect Shubert fled the vehicle on foot.
Shubert ran through a tree line to a truck-stop parking lot, where he reportedly tried to steal three tractor-trailer trucks. One driver was threatened with a knife, but the driver prevented the suspect from getting into the truck, the sheriff's office said. Deputies arrived at the scene and arrested Shubert without incident.
Shubert is charged with two counts of robbery-carjacking with a weapon; two counts of child neglect; driving while license suspended (a second offense for Shubert); felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement at a high rate of speed; and attempted occupied burglary of a conveyance.
Shubert was being held on a bond of more than $120,000 in the Marion County Jail.
Two deputies received minor injuries in the foot pursuit.
Four passengers were discovered in the car, including a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old, during the pursuit. None of the passengers was injured. The investigation was ongoing.
