DALTON, Ga. -- (WZTV) -- The Dalton Police Department (DPD) is looking for the public's help in uncovering who sealed a puppy in a cardboard box and left it on the side of the road Wednesday.
DPD spokesperson Bruce Frazier says several neighborhood children found the box near the intersection of Needham Drive and Kammi Street in Dalton around noon.
The children called 9-1-1. Firefighters responded and were able to get the puppy out of the box. The outside of the box had markings from Doctors Foster and Smith Affordable Quality Pet Care.
DPD says that despite being in a sealed container in 80-degree weather, the puppy was healthy and playful once she was freed.
The approximately 8-week-old dog was taken by Animal Control and turned over, safe and sound, to a local rescue organization.
