OAKLAND, Calif. -- (KRON) -- An indie singer-songwriter died Wednesday morning after he was robbed and dragged by a car in Oakland, according to police.
Police have identified the victim as 40-year-old David Deporis, of Oakland. Deporis was a well-known musician.
Deporis was sitting at an outside table at Telegraph Avenue cafe in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood at around 12:35 p.m. when someone came up and stole his laptop.
Police say Deporis chased the thief around the corner to 42nd street. The thief got into a vehicle, which began driving off down Rich Street with Deporis holding onto the car.
